Kinétre – The Origi-Nation

NSA Grade 12 Physical Theatre Production | 11–14 March 2026

The National School of the Arts Drama Department presents Kinétre – The Origi-Nation, a powerful programme of Grade 12-led physical theatre and choreography running from 11 to 14 March 2026 in the NSA Theatre.

“Kinétre” draws from the roots of movement and theatre, foregrounding the body as a site of meaning. This year’s production explores physical protest theatre through the sub-theme embodied resistance. When words fail, bodies speak. When voices are silenced, movement becomes revolt.

Each work in the programme pushes the body toward extremity, where gesture becomes statement and physical presence becomes political expression.

Commissioned Work and Creative Direction

The Drama Department has commissioned theatre maker and choreographer Lucky Moeketsi to create a new work for the matric class of 2026. Audiences can look forward to his evocatively titled Boarder Crossing.

Senior drama educator Thoriso Rorisang Raphela, who guides the creative direction for Kinétre, also contributes a new work titled MORÄ, adding his distinctive creative voice to the season.

Grade 12 Original Works

The programme features original works by the Class of 2026:

  • Aaron Muthudi – Kupuguzwa (Reduced)
  • Lwandile Melesi – Umzimba Ongamukelekile
  • Naledi Norokuza – Inculcate
  • Esihle Msimango – Imperium
  • Keatlegile Gasa – Siqeqeshiwe
  • Nobulumko Ndevu – Boy!

Kinétre reflects NSA’s commitment to nurturing original thinking, disciplined performance practice, and courageous artistic exploration.
