School of Specialisation in Performing and Creative Arts
The National School of the Arts, fondly known as the NSA, is a unique secondary school serving the advancement of creatively gifted learners from across South Africa providing an environment where they can excel artistically and academically.
Situated on the crest of the Braamfontein Ridge in a precinct known for education, arts, and culture, the NSA has been a pioneer in the field of specialist education for over fifty years. A short walk from the main transport hubs and WITS University, the school attracts day scholars from the greater Johannesburg region and boarders from across the county and greater SADC region. An on-site hostel offers comfortable single-room accommodation in separate buildings for boys and girls.
Talent and a good academic report are the criteria for admission to the NSA. Prospective learners must pass an audition in either Art, Dance, Drama, or Music to secure a place at this culturally and historically rich high school where arts and academics share the spotlight.

Inaugural Choral Festival
24 & 25 June 2022 @ The NSA
The 1st Annual National School of the Arts Choral Festival is a 2-day event that will welcome choirs from primary schools and high schools from across the country. On day one, the focus will be on learning with singing masterclasses, choral, composition and arranging workshops. Day two will celebrate performance with two public concerts culminating in a mass choir piece. It is time to raise our voices!

Physica
9th – 10th August 2022 – The People’s Theatre at Joburg Theatre
Presented by the NSA Drama Department, this physical theatre and choreographic showcase features selected work devised and directed by Grade 12 drama learners.
Guided by NSA senior drama and movement educator Thoriso Rorisang Raphela, PHYSICA shows the versatility of our drama learners and promises to be an entertaining evening in the theatre.

Epiphany
18th – 21st August 2022 – The Lesedi at Joburg Theatre
Showcasing the dancers from the National School of the Arts, Dance Spectrum EPIPHANY takes to the stage of the Lesedi Theatre from the 18th – 21st of August.
The work includes neo-classical ballet, contemporary, Afro-Fusion and Spanish and sees the versatility of the NSA dancers well displayed.
