As March dawns we head for a spectacular finale to our first term!
We’re excited to share the events and productions that make up our “Creative Confluence” first term arts programme made possible through funding from the National Arts Council of South Africa. In true NSA spirit the creative energy is currently heightened in the corridors, rehearsal spaces and studios of our wonderful school! We’re thrilled to highlight some of the upcoming events that you won’t want to miss!
First up, is the Open Day on Saturday, 1st March! This is an opportunity for prospective learners and parents to discover more about the NSA. Please share the marketing material on your social media platforms. On Saturday the 1st March be sure to catch our “Dance Celebration: Geometry in Motion” in the NSA Hall at 5 pm. This is a fundraiser for the Dance Department as well as an exam! Tickets are available at the shop@artschool. Selected pieces from Celebration will then go on to be restaged in the Lesedi in a major collaborative production be– tween the drama and the dance department titled “Creative Confluence: Moving Stories”. This inno– vative collaboration will showcase exciting and thought-provoking choreography and physical the– atre. Bookings have opened through web tickets and Joburgtheatre.com. We have three performances, and we hope to sell every ticket. All ticket revenue goes back into the school.
On the 8th March, the Art Department will host the first “Sip and Paint” event of 2025 in the main foyer of the school. We are thrilled to be joined by two mosaic artists – We’re also excited to announce that Gavaza and Mosa will be in residence for the last two weeks of the term leaving their artistry in a beautiful collaborative mosaic work in the “garden” in front of the Art Department. The Creative Confluence will kickstart the rebirth of the Art Department Garden. The Jazz and Pop Ensembles – second edition – takes place in The Mandela at Joburg Theatre over the human rights holiday weekend – Saturday the 22nd March! Featuring special NSA alumni guest stars
(names to be released soon!) the choir, orchestra, band, and soloists, and dancers from our Dance de- partment. The production will be staged and direct– ed by the inimitable Clive Mathibe Tuku and Lesego Van Niekerk (Sho’t Left Broadway) This spectacular event will end the term on the perfect note. We have one thousand seats to fill – so let’s fill them all and bring in sorely needed funds into the school coffers.
“Creativity takes courage” said the great French painter Matisse and staging productions takes cre– ative vision, discipline, commitment, money and generous partners. The NSA wishes to acknowledge DWR for the new lighting console for the NSA Hall, the National Arts Council of South Africa, who have sponsored our first term performances under the PESP5 programme – a presidential economic stim– ulus programme. We also thank the Joburg Theatre for being the most supportive and friendly neigh– bour anyone could wish to have!
We look forward to seeing you at the theatre! Let’s make March 2025 a month to remember.
We are NSA!
