NSA Information

General Education and Training (GET)

As a national requirement all schools are required to comply with the regulations of the General Education and Training (GET) component of the Curriculum and Assessment Policy statements (CAPS).

The GET phase covers eight learning areas: Languages (English Home Language, Afrikaans or isiZulu or Sesotho First Additional Language, Mathematics, Social Sciences (SS), Natural Sciences (NS), Creative Arts, Economic Management Sciences (EMS), Technology and Life Orientation.


All learners are required to complete this phase by the end of their Grade 9 school year. This involves School Based Assessment (SBA) work in the eight learning areas and an end of year examination in the eight learning areas. 


In addition all learners must also select, and pass, a specialisation subject from the following subject choices: Art, Dance Studies, Dramatic Art and Music Studies.
